Free Science Fun While You Shop

From robot racing to guessing how much sugar is in our food, lots of science fun lies in store at Wellgate this weekend, as part of Dundee Science Festival.

During the ‘Saturday Science Live’ drop-in event, free family-friendly activities will run on Level 2 from 1-4pm on Saturday 5 November 2016, with a range of fun experiments and demos to enjoy.

Dr Amy Cameron and Susan Jalicy from University of Dundee will be challenging visitors to predict how much sugar lurks in a range of food and drinks through an interactive guessing game. They will also be bringing their Tinkle Test where visitors can test some sugary samples for Type 2 Diabetes.

Meanwhile, if Lego is your thing, come and have a go at programming and racing Lego Mindstorm robots with University of St Andrews student ambassadors.

Dundee Science Centre’s team will also be delivering a variety of activities from The Crunch, all about our health, our food and our planet! Get the chance to nibble on an insect – a possible food of the future, or try out some cocoa nibs and see where chocolate comes from. Visitors can also discover how much iron is in their breakfast cereal and in magnets, and roll their own little bag of oats to take away to make some tasty, healthy recipes!

Peter Aitken, Centre Manager, Wellgate said, “We are delighted to be welcoming Dundee Science Festival into Wellgate this weekend. As an established and popular event in the city’s events calendar, the festival activities will provide lots of fun for families, and some fascinating health information too.”

Now in its seventh year, the science celebration descends upon the city from Saturday 29 October through to Sunday 13 November 2016, promising fun, entertainment, inspiration and curiosity for all ages in the shape of 30 events.

Dundee Science Festival is brought to you by Dundee Science Centre, along with key partners Dundee City Council and The Scottish Government.
