Who Dunnit?

The fascinating world of crime detection will be explored at the Wellgate Shopping Centre in Dundee this weekend, as part of the latest ‘Saturday Science Live’ events.

After the overwhelming success of the first two free events at the end of July and August, Saturday 27 September will see Dundee Science Centre returning to the Wellgate, this time with their exciting hands-on ‘CSI Forensics’ demonstration.

Taking place on Level 2 of the Wellgate (near BHS) between 1-4pm, ‘Saturday Science Live’ is aimed at both adults and children, and takes place on the last Saturday of every month. This weekend’s event will see visitors of all ages adopt the role of a crime scene investigator and examine where to find fingerprints and how to track down criminals. Visitors will be able to take their own fingerprints, using police methods and find out how unique they really are, as well as playing Fingerprint Bingo!

Jon Walton, Centre Manager, Wellgate Shopping Centre said, “We’re really looking forward to be hosting the CSI Forensics show which is bound to appeal to both children and adults. The demo will tap into an area of science which always enthuses the general public, that of crime scenes and catching criminals. While showing yet another dimension of science, the latest ‘Saturday Science Live’ promises to once again captivate our visitors and add a little more fun to their shopping experience.”

Meanwhile, Rebecca Erskine, Exhibition and Community Engagement Manager, Dundee Science Centre added, “’Saturday Science Live’ is consistently attracting huge numbers, showcasing a different scientific theme each time. We’re really excited to once again be heading back to the Wellgate, this time with a super sleuth activity. We’ll be looking at where to find fingerprints and how to track down a criminal. Visitors will also get to take their fingerprints using special magnetic brushes and lifting them using tape to keep on a worksheet before using ink pads to take the rest of their fingerprints and comparing the differences with magnifying glasses.”

Visitors taking part in ‘Saturday Science Live’ will also be invited to give their feedback, with the added incentive to win £100 worth of shopping vouchers from a Wellgate Shop of their choice.
