Tayside Aviation is Scotland’s premier flight school.
Having flown 33 million miles since its launch exactly 50 years ago, the equivalent of 70 trips to the moon and back, the multi award-winning family business has trained over 5,000 commercial airline pilots in this time. In addition, the Dundee business has also trained a staggering 6,000 RAF cadets and flown 1,500 flying scholarships, including 300 from as far away as Hong Kong.
Employing 35 staff, Tayside Aviation ploughs around £1.5 million into the local economy each year, with trainee pilots from over 12 countries coming to Dundee – and to Fife Airport – to realise their aviation dreams. Tayside Aviation trains commercial pilots for airlines across the world, particularly for Loganair, who the company has had a long and successful partnership with, and FlyBe.
After meeting Managing Director James Watt at one of my first ever Grainger PR networking events , we re-grouped in 2008 when I was called in to help promote the company’s role flying the flag for female pilots on ‘Women in the Air Day’.
Things have really taken off since then (apologies for the poor aviation pun…), having promoted everything from awards and new aviation contracts to the unveiling of a state-of-the-art simulator this month and, of course, Scotland’s first ever degree of flight which Tayside Aviation launched back in 2015.
Together, we have generated coverage in the local and national press, on television, radio and in countless aviation magazines read by both airlines and the next generation of pilots.

James Watt, Managing Director said, “We have dabbled with various PR providers over the years and have to say that Grainger PR has been perfect in every way for us. Claire is very professional and the articles she produces for us are first class.
“She is also very good at keeping us organised with regards to PR planning which is key for any company but particularly for a small organisation such as our’s. We need someone to prod us to keep up to date with ‘the plan’ and also to start thinking ahead to other PR opportunities that may be on the horizon. We would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending her services to other businesses.”
