John Swinney, Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills applauded Dundee Science Centre for its contribution towards the Scottish education system when he spoke at the celebratory launch of the new Science Learning Suite last night (Thursday 30 August 2018).
In front of around 150 invited guests, Mr Swinney spoke at the official celebration of the new facilities which, alongside the ‘Medical Marvels’ exhibition, follow a successful £2M fundraising campaign coinciding with the centre’s 18th birthday. After several months of construction and fit-out, the redevelopment doubles the upper floor space through a mezzanine extension.

Two Dundee teenagers will launch their band’s first EP in the city next month.
Albany, formed by guitarist Jamie Cruickshank and drummer Jack Guyan (both 15) will launch ‘Origins’ at Church, Ward Road, Dundee on Friday 7 September 2018.
The EP was recorded at Dundee and Angus College Gardyne recording studio, as part of the Scottish Music Centre’s ‘Music Plus’ programme, supported by Gardyne’s Youth Music Initiative (YMI).

Over 100 years after a Dundee-based aviation pioneer flew his experimental glider for the first time, his great-great-granddaughter has enjoyed her first flying lesson!
When he was just 17, one year older than Isabella Coombs, David Urquhart was working as an amateur engineer with aviation trailblazer Preston Watson. Preston had the vision, talent and financial backing to develop his own aeroplane designs in what was the very earliest stage of experimental controlled powered flight.

A flight training simulator, which has recently been installed in Dundee, will meet exacting new global standards required by the airline industry, helping tackle the worldwide shortage of pilots.
Flight training organisation Tayside Aviation has recently made a £300,000 investment in the future of its students, in order to enhance the training standard of its courses and future-proof its training offering. The Alsim ALX simulator is part funded by a £80,000 Regional Selective Assistance (RSA) grant from Scottish Enterprise.
