International Growth Drives Fife Textiles Company’s Turnover
1 April 2026
Scott & Fyfe is a Scottish business success story, rooted in Tayport, Fife.
Despite its international success in delivering technical textile solutions across a wide range of global sectors, and its status as a proud employee-owned business, the company’s public profile was, at times, relatively modest.
In 2024, 14 months into her role as Managing Director following 20 years with the company, Michelle Quadrelli recognised that Scott & Fyfe had a wealth of achievements that deserved greater visibility. Whether through the press or national awards, she identified that it was time for the business to step forward and raise its profile.
Whether in the press or through national awards, it was time for Scott & Fyfe to shine!
The ChallengeIn the early stages of my partnership with Scott & Fyfe, I developed an operational PR plan that identified key opportunities, target audiences, and core messaging priorities.
One of our first major successes was celebrating the company’s 160th anniversary, which coincided with record-breaking financial performance. I secured extensive local and national media coverage, supported by high-quality photography. Coverage appeared in publications including The Scotsman, Scottish Business News, Scottish Financial News, Project Scotland, The Courier, Insider and Fife Business Matters. I also worked closely with the company’s membership organisations, securing additional coverage through Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce, CeeD, Employee Ownership Association and Fife Business Matters.
Alongside this, I supported the company with award submissions, crafting compelling entries that contributed to significant national recognition, including:
Trade press also plays a vital role for Scott & Fyfe, with approximately 90% of its output exported internationally. The online editions of specialist publications provide global reach, while many also sponsor trade shows attended by the company, enhancing visibility at key points throughout the business calendar. I have secured significant editorial coverage across key industry publications, including Innovation in Textiles, Composites World and Technical Textiles.
In both 2025 and 2026, Scott & Fyfe continued to engage me to publicise its financial success, resulting in further widespread business media coverage.
Together with Colin Kelly of Comsteria, I delivered a bespoke media training session for the senior leadership team in 2025, strengthening their confidence and capability to engage with the press and communicate the company’s story effectively.
The SolutionThe consistent, high-quality media coverage I secured provided Scott & Fyfe with a steady stream of fresh, credible content to share with customers, stakeholders and employees.
Working alongside the in-house marketing team, my success in securing third-party endorsement helped generate enquiries and present a more accurate, balanced and positive picture of the company’s performance, capabilities and achievements.
The Impact
“We’ve always been proud of our achievements and our heritage but, before working with Claire, we weren’t effectively sharing our successes outwith. With so many great stories to tell around impact and innovation, we reached out to Claire to help change that. In just a few weeks, we gained significant exposure in both local and national press. Since then, Claire has helped us seize more opportunities through awards and thought-leadership pieces. A bespoke media training day also gave us the skills to engage with the press and maximise our media presence with confidence. We look forward to generating more exposure as the Scott & Fyfe story continues.”
