Dundee Nursery Children Sow the Seeds of Tapestry Lawn Project

A group of children are sowing the seeds of Ninewells’ new Community Garden Tapestry Lawn project.

The Teddy Bear Club Nursery, just a stone’s throw from Ninewells, is looking after nine trays of seeds within the nursery greenhouse before they are planted within the garden. With the help of his Father Mark, Jasper (5) began the process of planting the seeds, a combination of Fragaria Vesca strawberry, Marjoram, Cat’s Ear, Rock Rose and Sea Campion.

The tapestry lawn within the community garden will be an alternative to traditional grass, instead made up of a variety of flowering plants.  The plants will knit together to form a colourful ground cover which can be walked on, while also providing bees and butterflies with lots of nectar and pollen.

The Community Garden project is inspired by the work of Lionel Smyth – for more information, call 0754 074 6075 or email facilitator@ninwellsgarden.org.uk.

The Teddy Bear Club provides childcare and education for children up to school age. For more information, please telephone 01382 641577 or visit website www.teddybearclubnursery.co.uk.
