Free ‘Funbox’ Treat Lined up for Dundee’s Hogmanay Celebrations
Published on 23 November 2019
Well-known kids’ entertainment troupe Funbox are to entertain families free of charge as part of Dundee’s Hogmanay celebrations.
Funbox – Anya, Kevin and Gary (formerly of The Singing Kettle) will bring fun and singalongs to audiences at Dundee’s City Square at 10am, as part of a full day of free, family entertainment prior to the evening’s concert.
Visitors can also enjoy free face-painting, a live broadcast from Tay FM and local bands Echo Machine, Billy Mitchell, Janine Allisa Wollman. To sign up for the daytime entertainments, please visit https://dundeehogmanay.com/.
Later that evening, an outdoor concert will take place, featuring Eddi Reader, headliner Kyle Falconer, rock pipe band Gleadhraich and Sinderins.
Organised by Dundee-based GMC Ventures Ltd and Edinburgh promoter Michael Ward of EH6 Festival, the celebrations have received support through Scotland’s Winter Festivals.
Jill Gibson from GMC Ventures said, “We’ve been delighted but not surprised by the interest in the family activities during the day, with a staggering 1400 free tickets reserved to date! Sometimes children aren’t so well catered for at Hogmanay so we were especially keen to incorporate a family programme into our event, allowing everyone to enjoy a Hogmanay to remember!”
Gary from Funbox added, “Hogmanay has changed over the years and has now become a family-orientated event, towards children as much as adults. Funbox – formerly of The Singing Kettle – are delighted to be ending the year in their favourite city. You don’t have to encourage children in Dundee to sing or join in, they automatically do it. Because of this, we’ll be doing classic Scots songs like ‘Ye Cannae Shove Yer Granny’ and ‘Buy me a Banana’. We’re looking forward to it as much as our audiences!”
Donations will be invited throughout the daytime event, with funds split between three local charities – Dundee Women’s Aid, Art Angel and Wellbeing Works.
Tay FM and Tay 2 are proud to be Official Partners for “It’s Happening!” Dundee Hogmanay 2019.
It is hoped that the event will attract audiences from outwith Dundee, with return buses available to Perth, St Andrews, Kirkcaldy, Brechin, Forfar and Arbroath.
Tickets for Hogmanay cost £32.50. For £68, a VIP upgrade offers exclusive access to The Italian Grill, buffet, private bar and Prosecco.
