ICE Touch For St Andrews RAG Week

St Andrews ice-cream institution Jannettas Gelateria has created a special lilac gelato to help raise funds for the town’s ‘Rag Week’.


The purple-branded Raising and Giving (RAG) Week is a branch of the University of St Andrews Charities Campaign, an annual week of charitable events dedicated to raising money for three student-nominated charities. 

This year, from 1-8 February 2015, students hope to raise thousands of pounds for local charity Families First, national charity Macmillan Cancer Support, and the international medical and humanitarian charity Medecins Sans Frontières (MSF). RAG Week 2015 is sponsored by Deloitte.

RAG Week organisers approached Jannettas to create a lilac gelato to complement RAG Week’s purple branding.  Tubs of the delicious and colourful blueberry creation, which have been sold to the student organisers at a discounted rate, will be sold at the three main RAG Week events, with all profits being ploughed into the charitable pot.  While Jannettas undergoes a major refurbishment, cones containing the blueberry gelato will also be sold at their sister company Burns Sweetie Shop, with £1 of each sale ploughed back into RAG Week.

Hannah Reed, RAG Week Coordinator 2015 said, “As well as having lots of fun, our prime aim is to raise as much money as we possibly can for a local, national and international charity, all of which resonate with the public at large for a variety of reasons.  We are delighted to have Jannettas, a favoured haunt of almost every student in town, supporting us in our endeavours and we look forward not only to tasting their ice-cream, but to seeing more funds raised as a result of their involvement.”
