The ever-changing world of digital technology, from apps to 3D printing pens, can be sampled at a special event in Dundee this weekend.
In what is the latest ‘Meet the Expert’ event at Dundee Science Centre, ‘Let’s Get Digital’ will run from 10am until 4pm on Saturday 9 September and is included as part of normal admission.
A stomach churning roller-coaster ride can be experienced with Dundee Science Centre’s Virtual Reality (VR) headsets, with visitors exploring other worlds and much more!
Experts taking part include Alistair Grant from the University of Edinburgh whose aircraft simulators will allow children to understand how flight works, as well as algorithmic activities to demonstrate how computers work.
Meanwhile, Alistair Wilson, Library and Information Worker with Leisure and Culture Dundee, will be showcasing an app allowing visitors to ‘graffiti’ the walls of Dundee Science Centre using projections from their drawings on a tablet or Ipad.
Other experts coming along include Dr Caroline Erolin, who is bringing along some 3D prints of zoology specimens as part of the D’Arcy Project and Abertay University games company Bit Loom who will be showcasing their hilarious game “PHOGS”. Last but by no means least, Gareth Williams of Envisaged Image will be demonstrating his 3D printed, working BB8 and miniature BB8 (aka Baby8) models and explaining the process behind making them.
Heather Gordon, Public Engagement Officer said, “With so much digital expertise on our doorstep, we were spoilt for choice when it came to experts for this digital day at Dundee Science Centre. This fast-changing high-tech world is no longer the stuff of science fiction and is now being opened up to each and every one of us. This event will give visitors of all ages and abilities the chance to come along and have a play with some of the cool gadgets and innovations being developed in and around Dundee.”
