My Digital World

From lifestyle apps to virtual reality medical training, an array of high-tech gadgets and innovations which are transforming our health, wellbeing and safety will provide a digital finale to this year’s Dundee Science Festival.

Hundreds of local residents have turned out to free events throughout the two week festival, which began on 6 October 2018. A range of local community hubs have come alive with everything from family-focused ‘Science Adventure’ events and makers’ workshops through to toddler-friendly storytime sessions. Crucially, the festival has also succeeded in connecting a variety of amazing Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) role models with a diverse range of audiences.

The finale weekend, on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 October 2018, will celebrate all that is digital.

Visitors to Dundee Science Centre will be surrounded by technologies designed to support our futures in addition to being great fun and highly interactive, with virtual reality experiences to try and gaming activities to enjoy, all offered by organisations throughout Scotland.

On Sunday, come along and explore the various smart gadgets which are helping people stay safe in their homes, and the virtual reality innovations which will help train the next generation of doctors in more realistic settings. This event marks the launch of ‘Discover Digital: for your health and wellbeing’, Scotland’s first week dedicated to immersive, multi-media events where people of all backgrounds and ages can experience how digital technologies play a role in their everyday wellbeing.

Amongst the many activities on offer will be the Soundplay Dome, a multi-sensory audio visual pop-up space using music, animation and interactive technology to help users explore, create and communicate through music, movement and play. Participants often find the immersive experience not just interesting, but also therapeutic, and the space is suitable for people of all ages and abilities.

Paul Strachan, Exhibition and Community Engagement Manager, Dundee Science Centre said, “This year’s Dundee Science Festival has once again attracted huge numbers to what has been a truly diverse range of events, and this last weekend certainly won’t disappoint! Technology is advancing at an amazing rate and we want our visitors to be a part of that and to meet the many innovators making it all possible. We’ve lined up lots of activities with virtual reality, gaming and design, as well as those focusing on amazing developments in medical technology – come along and switch onto the future!”
