Winter Wonders
If you’re dreaming of the white stuff this Winter, it’s guaranteed at Dundee Science Centre!
During the three weekends before Christmas – Saturday and Sunday 3/4, 10/11 and 17/18 December 2022 – visitors can make fake snow and fizzing snowmen and learn how to illuminate their Christmas lights with the humble potato!
As well as meeting The Grinch and receiving a gift, children can monitor the countdown to the big day with the Norad Santa tracker. An array of festive crafting ‘make and take’ sessions will also be available, with the chance to make snowball catapults and fingerprint baubles!
For younger children, there will be an early year’s story time, with a gingerbread hunt Christmas trail around the centre. There will also be the chance for visitors to make well-wishing gift tags which will be included inside festive forensic science kits that are being distributed to some of the city’s most deserving families. These kits have been funded by the Leverhulme Research Centre for Forensic Science at the University of Dundee and the Royal Institution.
Lorraine Lemon, Head of Business at Dundee Science Centre, said, “The change in seasons sparks a range of questions and activities around science and how we can turn everyday ingredients into stunning and jaw-dropping experiments. And as for the white stuff, all children love snow, but it’s rarely guaranteed. Don’t be disappointed, come down and make your own, with some fizzing snowmen to boot! We’d also love our visitors to do their bit for other children in the city by creating gift tags for the science kits we’ll be distributing across the city in the days ahead!”
Tickets for Winter Wonders are £10 per child* and £4.50 for adults (children aged two and under included free of charge).
Dundee Science Centre is also taking part in the ‘Christmas in Dundee’ celebrations on Friday 9 and Friday 16 December, with visitors making fake snow in the City Square.
Visitors are asked to pre-book as spaces are limited – please call (01382) 228800 or visit www.dundeesciencecentre.org.uk.
