Resilience: Do you Bend or Break?
How do your colleagues handle problems in the workplace? Do they have the skills to bounce back, adapt and problem solve?
A business seminar is being held in Dundee next month to promote resilience, an essential skill for anyone working under pressure and dealing with constant change.
The event, to be held at Discovery Point on Tuesday 3 October 2017, will be hosted by Rowan Consultancy, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this Autumn and is primarily aimed at managers, Occupational Health and Human Resources staff. By supporting their staff, managers can prevent under-performance, personal distress and absence. The event is also open to individuals who wish to build their own resilience.
Founded by Rachel Weiss and Christine Partridge at a kitchen table in 1997, Perth-based Rowan has evolved into one of Scotland’s leading providers of personal and organisational growth and development services. Working with a range of clients from pupils and teachers to employees and private individuals, Rowan offers four main services – coaching, workplace mediation, training and counselling.
In 20 years, Rowan has seen over 3,000 counselling clients and delivered training to a similar number within businesses across Perthshire, Dundee, Angus and Fife, and beyond. In addition to a core team of six, Rowan has 66 associate counsellors, trainers and coaches, working from London to Inverness.
Rachel Weiss said, “In the increasingly turbulent and stressful context of today’s working world, the resilience of both individuals and organisations is key to ensure that we – and our businesses – survive and thrive. It’s crucial that managers help team members realise they are not alone in facing pressure and have many options in how they choose to respond. The seminar will help delegates become familiar with some techniques for building resilience, both physically and cognitively and understand how to create a resilience-promoting environment within their team.”
The event, which costs £10 per delegate, will start at 9.30am with networking and coffee, with the seminar itself running from 10am until 12.30pm.
The event will be facilitated by Sarah Axford, who has over 20 years’ experience working with children, young people, parents, teachers and support staff as an Educational Psychologist for Perth and Kinross Council and Aberdeenshire Council. Over the past eight years, she has developed a particular interest in, and knowledge of, the psychology of resilience and wellbeing. She regularly delivers training on the award-winning Bounce Back! resilience programme to school staff, and training on wellbeing to diverse groups of adults and young people in educational and other settings.
She will be joined by Rachel Weiss, who has over 25 years’ experience in training and teaching, working with young people and adults to facilitate their learning and development in a variety of contexts including schools, universities and workplaces. She is an accredited counsellor and coach. Rachel has led many workshops on stress awareness, stress management and resilience, as well as coaching individuals.
