School’s Out For Summer!
Front Lounge blog
Kindred Clothing isn’t just about a qualification – it’s also about making friends, having fun and finding your tribe.
From signing up for this clothes-making course, to turning up nervously on day one, to graduation, our learners go on a journey.
We see it all – low self-belief and frustration evolving into sheer perseverance to get the work done, do it well and meet deadlines.
But, balancing out the tricky bits, we see our learners connecting and having fun – aspects of learning they hadn’t experienced before. More often than not, they join the course as strangers and complete it as friends.
We also love to expose our learners to new opportunities, and what better than a summer’s day dolphin-spotting on the beautiful River Tay?
Heading out on their boat, the Missel Thrush, we had a fantastic day with local charity Taymara (Tay Maritime Action). This local charity makes memories and provides experiences for those who might otherwise miss out, so the perfect match for our values as a charity. We may not have spotted dolphins but we had a day we’ll never forget – the perfect reward for the hard work, dedication and commitment our learners have demonstrated.
But this is by no means the end of their journey for our latest cohort of learners. Some are heading to college, one to university and some returning to complete their school education. There’s no doubt, Kindred Clothing has been a turning point for every single learner and the catalyst for change.
What’s more, the ultimate recognition and celebration of achievements is still to come. In August, up to 15 learners will graduate at Dundee’s Mains Castle, with certificates, speeches, food and, you guessed it, more laughter and tears!
We can’t wait to welcome our learners, their friends and families to celebrate this important event, not forgetting a mini-reunion of some of those who shaped the Front Lounge we know today.
