Scottish Designer Creates Exclusive Jacket for New V&A Dundee Exhibition
One of Scotland’s leading fashion houses Isolated Heroes has been named the exclusive fashion collaborator for V&A Dundee’s new exhibition, Night Fever: Designing Club Culture.
The exhibition, which explores the relationship between club culture and design, will open on Saturday 1 May.
The Night Fever inspired collection will include a limited-edition sequin biker exclusive to the shop at V&A Dundee which will be available to purchase from 1 May. In addition to the exclusive biker jacket, there will be signature Isolated Heroes t-shirts, a sequin sweater, knitted socks and zero waste face coverings available to purchase from £15.
Founded in Dundee in 2012 by designer Samantha Paton, the brand is on a mission to contribute towards a circular economy. Each item is made to order and hand cut on a small batch which means minimal fabric waste. Not only does this add to the exclusivity of the garment it means they can provide a better customer experience and alter an item to the customer’s exact specifications without harming the planet. From the minimal waste, Isolated Heroes are creating zero waste face masks and accessories, manufactured in their Dundee studio. They made over 1400 masks in the Summer of 2020 and donated 33% of profits to charities at the heart of the brand, these include Refuge and the Black Scottish Business Fund.
The aim of this collaboration is to raise awareness of the incredible creative community in Scotland. Samantha hopes that the brand will reach a wider demographic and raise awareness of the mission Isolated Heroes are on to empower diverse individuals no matter their shape or size, building body positivity around the world.
Speaking of the museum collaboration, founder and designer Samantha Paton said, “We are proud to be a sustainable, independent business based in Dundee with a loyal creative community of customers. It’s great to see V&A Dundee continue to support and nurture the talented design community in Scotland, especially in our hometown of Dundee and we are excited to be part of the Night Fever exhibition. 90’s club culture has always been a big inspiration for the Isolated Heroes brand so this collaboration is such a great fit. Collaborating with V&A Dundee helps us widen our demographic and allows us to demonstrate that fashion success stories can be achieved north of the border.”
Alan Birch, Retail Manager, V&A Dundee added, “The Isolated Heroes collection not only encapsulates the joyful spirit of our new exhibition Night Fever : Designing Club Culture, it provides us with an opportunity to introduce our visitors and shop customers to a very talented Dundee-based designer who has grown a successful design studio committed to sustainability and zero waste. We can’t wait to launch this exciting new Isolated Heroes collection at V&A Dundee on Saturday 1 May.”

ABOUT ISOLATED HEROES
Founded in 2012 by designer Samantha Paton, Isolated Heroes is on a mission to empower babes of all shapes, designing feel good clothing that help customers feel like the sassiest versions of themselves. One of the first independent brands to champion body positivity, they developed collections in a size range accessible to all (designs available from UK6 – UK28).
Isolated Heroes signature faux fur and sassy sequin styles have gained interest from celebrities across the globe. The brand now counts Miley Cyrus, Paloma Faith, Pixie Lott, Be Charlotte, top social influencer Sophie Hannah and most recently drag queen Ellie Diamond amongst its growing international client base.
Isolated Heroes is providing a platform for a strong, diverse workforce. They offer an all important funnel of opportunity and employment for freelancers and graduates within the Scottish fashion industry, showing that fashion success stories can be north of the border. All production takes place in Samantha’s home city of Dundee, Scotland.
The design studio is a thriving hub of fashion tech, design and communications professionals who bring their skill sets together to make the Isolated Heroes dream a reality.
Working hard to educate consumers about the importance of sustainability within an independent business, they believe transparency is key. The team share frequent behind the scenes footage of the production room on social media, taking customers on a journey from design, sampling to producing a finished garment. They are an open book in terms of where and how the garment is made and like to share the facts of the production process with their audience.
They believe in working with fabric agents and suppliers to create a seamless, ethical supply chain for traceability, making sure fabric is manufactured in factories and mills that are following strict ethical guidelines and addressing social impacts.
The strong creative community of loyal customers Isolated Heroes have worked hard to build over the years has allowed the brand to scale up production in a sustainable way. Through Samantha’s transparent approach from design to production, customers have an appreciation for the skill and time it takes to create each garment and regularly engage with the process. This has resulted in huge success for the brand, with much more to come.
