Orthodontics Practice Cements Position at Root of Dental Community

Beam Orthodontics is expanding its Dundee premises due to the growing demand for specialist orthodontic treatment to straighten teeth and perfect smiles.
The dynamic, contemporary practice, based on South Tay Street, is expanding into the space downstairs to accommodate more patients, both private and NHS, and its growing team.
Every day, the team of 23 staff, headed up by three Specialist Orthodontists, focuses on one goal – perfecting smiles. With over 40 years of orthodontic experience between them, Principal Specialist Orthodontist and Beam co-founder Ruaridh McKelvey and his team of Specialist Orthodontists benefit from unrivalled experience in a range of different appliances and techniques, with the knowledge and training required to ensure the very best results.
Mr McKelvey commented, “Since we opened in 2007, we have seen a huge rise in demand for orthodontic treatment and now welcome patients from throughout Dundee, Angus, Fife, Perthshire and beyond.
“When it comes to NHS orthodontic treatment, we have developed excellent relationships with dentists throughout the East of Scotland, looking after their patients’ treatment planning and management, and our growth has largely come from these relationships.
However, as well as NHS children’s orthodontics, increasing numbers of adults are also approaching Beam for treatment.
Mr McKelvey added, “More and more adults, of all ages, are coming in for treatment for cosmetic reasons. Typically, people will look at a photograph of themselves and see a flaw in their smile that they want to have corrected. We have been playing catch-up in the UK to an extent, and live in a ‘selfie’ generation where people are looking to address imperfections. People don’t want to put up with that squint front tooth staring back at them on their social media posts. With the rise of high-tech appliances like Invisalign, it’s easier than ever before to fix your smile with a Specialist Orthodontist.
“By expanding our premises, we will significantly improve our capacity for surgeries, increasing the number of chairs from five to eight, and also future-proof Beam as a business for the months and years ahead.”
The expansion will also see Beam recruit more staff, both clinical and administrative.
Mr McKelvey added, “By expanding our premises, we will also be able to add to the team and maintain the high standards which our patients have come to expect. However, despite the fact that orthodontists are being trained round the corner at the hospital, it is a challenge to recruit Specialist Orthodontists. We are hoping to capitalise on the buzz around Dundee at the moment to encourage people to re-locate.”
