Resounding Success of Fife Science Festival
Published on 9 June 2014
This year’s Fife Science Festival has been hailed a ‘showstopping success’, after audience figures showed a 200% + increase in visitors compared to last year! The event, which took place throughout the Kingdom in March 2014, explored science through a host of events, activities and exhibitions within a total of 29 venues. Over 14,000 visitors flocked to the 32 different events, a 219% increase on the 2013 event.
Organisations wishing to take part in next year’s festival will be able to submit their event proposals from the end of July onwards.
The festival, which is coordinated by Dundee Science Centre, highlighted the sheer fun, fascination and intrigue of everything from rockets and robots to WW1 communications, astronomy, crystals, forensics and creepy crawlies. With 25% more events held this year compared to last, the festival involved 35 partner organisations, including museums, shopping centres and universities, not to mention a coffee shop, castle and cathedral!
Funded by The Scottish Government and Fife Cultural Trust, the festival involved a diverse range of free events for the general public and both primary and secondary schools, all coordinated by Dundee Science Centre and Fife Cultural Trust. After receiving a record number of event proposals, Dundee Science Centre is currently in the process of creating a packed, varied and exciting programme for Dundee Science Festival, which will run from Saturday 1 through to Sunday 16 November 2014.
Laura Wilkie, Festivals and Community Engagement Manager, Dundee Science said, “We are absolutely thrilled at the success of this year’s Fife Science Festival which incorporated a cracking line-up of activities, events and exhibitions. With a number of new partners involved, it was great to bring the festival experience into new areas of Fife, as well as branching into new venues. With our focus currently shifting to Dundee Science Festival, we will look forward to returning to Fife next Spring with, undoubtedly, another amazing festival full of fun, surprises and intrigue!”
